Martin Library will officially introduce its newly renovated building to the community during its Grand Reopening Celebration from Monday, July 11 through Sunday, July 17 at 159 E. Market Street in York. The week’s festivities kick off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 9:00 a.m. Monday, July 11 in front of the library’s Market Street entrance. The commemorative event will include comments from York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert and several community leaders. Tours of the library will follow at 10:00 a.m.
“Three years ago, our community gathered inside Martin Library’s atrium to hear YCL’s vision for revitalized library facilities. Our dedicated campaign leaders and volunteers raised funds for not just one, but three simultaneous library building projects through the ‘Imagine. Discover. Connect.’ capital campaign,” says Lambert. “It is with great pride that we invite the community to see the results firsthand as we celebrate the completion of Martin Library’s project.”
The grand reopening celebration will feature activities throughout the week including a history of Martin Library program, self-guided building tours, a creative program for teens, and Luis Garay World Percussion. The week wraps up with a block party from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17.
“We’re going to hold a block party on Queen Street to commemorate this occasion. After 15 months of construction and renovation, we are so excited to be welcoming the community back to Martin Library,” says Martin Library Director Mina Edmondson. “Everyone is welcome to attend. Block Party Supporting Sponsor Maple Press and several local organizations have joined us to create a block party featuring games, music, performances, activities for kids, food trucks and library tours.”
According to Edmondson, York City is closing Queen Street between Cherry Lane and Market Street, so that the library can hold the event just outside the children’s area. There is plenty of on-street parking near the library, and metered spots are free on Sundays. Serving the community since 1935, Martin Library is one of York County’s oldest libraries and is a branch of York County Libraries. Located at 159 E. Market Street in the City of York, it is recognized as a PA Forward Gold Star library for its outstanding provision of programs and resources to community members. Martin Library also holds the distinguished honor of being the first library to receive the Library of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Library Association.

They have an extensive collection of over 642,000 physical items, and more than one million digital library materials for loan.
