Hawks Cay - A Tropical Family Resort

I took my very first non-family vacation last week.  I packed my bags, left my daughter and boyfriend behind and traveled to Hawks Cay Resort in the Florida Keys for a Girlfriends’ Getaway. I could not wait to get to this 60 acre tropical paradise on Duck Key Island!  This was my first getaway and I was going to do what I've always wanted to do, nothing. That's right, absolutely nothing - have no worries, no schedule, no plans and just relax pool side with my only care being when to apply sunscreen and how fast the waiter would be with my drinks.  This was my vacation and I couldn't wait!

When I first arrived at Hawks Cay I was enchanted by the turquoise blue water, palm trees and tropical atmosphere. I knew this was going to be heaven, my very own tropical relaxation spot. I took a tour around the resort and immediately scoped out a few “me” spots. I added the salt water lagoon, 21+ tranquility pool and spa to my to-do list and then immediately got my swimsuit on. I spent the entire weekend lounging pool or lagoon side with not a care in the world and boy, was it amazing. But something crazy happened ... I was wishing I brought my family!  That's right ladies, here I was lounging on an island with not a care in the world and deep down all I really wanted was my family there enjoying it with me and I knew why.  The resort itself is a secluded tropical paradise, but that is only half its charm. The most intriguing thing about Hawks Cay is its welcoming family vibe and that spoke to my mommy heart.

With the exception of the 21+ tranquility pool (maturity optional) and tiki bar, everything at Hawks Cay has a family touch.  At the beautiful salt water lagoon you can rent kayaks and paddle boards, build sand castles or watch the boats come in and out of the harbor. The main pool is huge zero entry pool where they play live music and hold kid and family-friendly entertainment throughout the day like their signature Mermaid Academy. I just pictured my family spending our days going between the pool and the lagoon while enjoying everything Hawks Cay offered.  My daughter would love the Mermaid Academy, my boyfriend would tryout the paddle boarding and I would enjoy taking pictures from my lounge chair enjoying the live music. At night we would enjoy the outdoor movies and other entertainment while lounging around the fire pit.  Maybe enjoy a late night swim...

Ugh, why is this happening?  This is my carefree, wanna getaway, relaxing weekend and all I'm doing is day dreaming about my family, what is going on?  And then I knew I had to come back.  I had to share this incredible resort with the ones I love the most and that is when I really started planning.  I checked out the Hawks Cay Kid's Club, toured the facility, checked out their incredible Pirate Ship Splash Pad, walked through the miniature golf course, and swung on the jungle gym.  This is the perfect tropical family wonderland, there was so much fun just waiting to be had.

My girlfriend's and I went for a dockside experience at the onsite Dolphin Connection, where they rehabilitate and educate the public on dolphin and ocean conservation. We got to feed, pet and interact with the dolphins. It was an amazing experience, one that I will never forget. I knew my daughter would love it and I was already making plans about which dolphin experience I would sign her up for.  You can also watch the dolphins anytime from a viewing deck and I knew my boyfriend would enjoy seeing and photographing the dolphins.

The entire stay at Hawks Cay was exactly what I needed. I will never forget my relaxing weekend in paradise. Now the fun part comes, planning for the return family trip!  See ya soon Hawks Cay!

I was hosted for my trip, however all opinions are my own.
