SUMMER CAMP: SOUND DESIGN FOR FILM
June 17 – 20, 10AM – 3PM (Bring a lunch!)
Age Range: Grades 7-12 (ages 12-18)
You’re watching a sci-fi movie. The villain’s henchmen pull out their laser guns, start shooting and you hear…..silence?
Most movie-goers take the sounds and music in their favorite films for granted, but they’re key to a great movie. You’ll work with producer and musician Chris Loser to sound design a short film and learn all about “foley” – the art of finding, or creating, just the right sound for whatever is happening on-screen. Then watch your work on the big screen with your guests in the Capitol Theatre at the end of the week.
One morning during camp, Video Game Sound Designer Dave Nazario will join us via Zoom from Los Angeles to share his experiences on games like Ratchet & Clank, Titanfall 2 and Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond, and will give some feedback on your movie work!
SUMMER CAMP: GREAT FILMS STARRING YOU!
June 24 - 28, 10AM - 4PM
Age Range: Grades 7-12 (ages 12-18)
“Great Films, Starring You” emphasizes film appreciation and critical thinking through storytelling, acting, writing and improvisation.
This experience encourages active observation and creative exploration of plot, theme, character, relationships, emotions and subtext. Focus will not be on the technical intricacies of filmmaking, though some will be touched upon as necessary.
All students will receive their own copy of the final film that will premiere on the big screen of the historic Capitol Theatre.
On-Camera Performance Track: Do you love movies? Do you love acting? Jump into this track and spend a week making your dreams come true while collaborating with like-minded kids!
Behind-the-Camera Production Track: If you are a budding filmmaker with your own camera or smartphone, this track is for you! We’ll provide the actors and stories; you get to play with directing, composition and editing. Acceptance into this track is by interview.

SUMMER CAMP: BUILD A WHAP-AMA-PHONE with Keystone Kidspace
July 8 - 12, 2 - 4PM
Age Range: Ages 10-14 (grades 5-9)
Music can come from anywhere – even from the pipe you use for plumbing in your house! Design and create your own PVC Pipe “Whap-ama-phones”, as made popular by The Blue Man Group and other “found sound” artists. Then, learn a few songs and perform a concert at the Appell Center in the Capitol Theatre! No maker or music experience required – just a desire to build something cool and put it to use!
SUMMER CAMP: IMPROV COMEDY (Ages 8-12)
July 22 - 26, 10AM - 1PM
Age Range: Ages 8-12 (grades 3-7)
Come ready to laugh the day away with local actress and improv comedy wiz Chris Myers while learning classic and new wave improv games that will jostle your brain and tickle your funny bone! The week ends with a student performance on the historic Capitol Theatre stage!
DO NOT FEAR! Massive brain growth and rapid development of a positive outlook, self-confidence and personal resourcefulness are simply useful by-products!
SHOWTIME! Invite family and friends to chuckle their cares away while you leap into the comedic air and land with your improv pals in bouncy hilarity!
