Between childcare drop-offs, work, grocery runs, and the daily scramble to figure out dinner, most family calendars already feel stretched to the limit. While we all want our kiddos to be active and make friends, but let’s be honest: the intense time commitment of traditional youth sports can feel like a part-time job for the whole family. Weekend-long travel tournaments, weeknight practices that clash with dinner, and high-stress sidelines? No, thank you.
That is exactly why I am so excited to share some amazing news for our local community. Starting this fall, i9 Sports is officially coming to York County.
For families unfamiliar with the organization, i9 Sports is the nation’s largest provider of community-based youth sports leagues. Their programs serve children ages 3 and up, offering opportunities to participate in flag football, soccer, basketball, baseball, and volleyball in a fun, supportive environment designed around families.
What makes i9 Sports stand out is its family-friendly approach. Unlike many traditional leagues, practices and games take place on the same day, typically on weekends. Instead of rushing from work to a weeknight practice and then heading back out for games days later, families can enjoy a simplified schedule that keeps sports manageable while still giving children the opportunity to learn and grow.
The new Greater York franchise is being launched by York County residents Jeremy and Katie Dillard. As homeschool parents of three children themselves, the Dillards understand the challenges many families face when balancing sports with everyday life. Their connection to i9 Sports began in 2018 when they were searching for a flag football program for their own children. After discovering an i9 Sports league in the Harrisburg area, they quickly became fans of its emphasis on skill development, sportsmanship, affordability, and family convenience.
After participating as an i9 Sports family for eight seasons, Jeremy and Katie saw an opportunity to bring the same positive experience to families right here in York County.
One of the aspects many parents will appreciate most about this organization is their focus on character development. Each week, coaches introduce a sportsmanship value such as teamwork, respect, inclusivity, or leadership. Children who demonstrate these qualities during games are recognized with Sportsmanship Medals, reinforcing the idea that being a supportive teammate is just as important as scoring points.
The league also removes much of the pressure often associated with youth sports. There are no tryouts or player drafts, friends can request to play together, and every child receives equal playing time regardless of skill level. Whether a child is kicking a soccer ball for the very first time or looking to try a new sport, the environment is designed to encourage participation, confidence, and fun.
Registration for the inaugural Fall season is now open! Families interested in learning more can visit the Greater York i9 Sports website and be sure to follow i9 Sports Greater York on social media to stay up to date on announcements, season updates, and more.
