In 1824, American Revolutionary War hero the marquis de Lafayette visited the United States of America for a Grand Tour of all 24 states, including a historic visit to York. Against the backdrop of a tumultuous election, a beloved hero of the American Revolution returned to America for the first time in 40 years. Join public historian Elizabeth Reese in a lecture that follows Lafayette's tour, highlighting the important people, events and legacy of America's favorite fighting Frenchman.
This program will be in person at the History Center Museum with a broadcast of the presenter as she is out of state. Additionally the History Center will highlight pieces and stories tied to Lafayette's time in York.

Elizabeth Reese is a public historian in the Washington, D.C. area.
Elizabeth has spent over a decade as an interpreter at federal historic sites, including Hamilton Grange National Memorial and the United States Capitol. Throughout her career, she has developed programs on civil rights, women’s history, and America’s Founding era. Her first book, Marquis de Lafayette Returns: A Tour of America’s National Capital Region, was published by The History Press (imprint of Arcadia Publishing) in 2024.
