Martin Library to Host Nonprofit Volunteer and Resource Fair

By York County Libraries January 9, 2025

Community members thinking about their 2025 New Year’s resolutions may want to add volunteering to the mix as a way to reach their goals. To highlight local opportunities, Martin Library in York is hosting a Nonprofit Volunteer and Resource Fair from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, January 18. Representatives from 12 local organizations will be stationed throughout the library’s Quiet Reading Room to share information and answer questions about volunteer opportunities with their organizations. The free event is open to the public and registration is not required to attend.

According to Martin Library Director Mina Edmondson, the upcoming event is a convenient way for adults and teens to discover some of the many organizations that help make York County a better place. “Volunteering provides an ideal way to expand your interests and achieve personal goals, all while helping others in your

community,” says Edmondson. “It is not unusual to find individuals who volunteer for multiple organizations because it is such a rewarding experience.”

Organizations participating in the Nonprofit Volunteer and Resource Fair include the Horn Farm Center; Lower Susquehanna Riverkeeper Association; Heavenly Paws Animal Shelter, Inc.; York County Food Bank; York County Area Agency on Aging; York Literacy Institute; York Habitat for Humanity; Appell Center for the

Performing Arts; The Program, It's About Change; York County Parks; Grane Hospice; and York County Libraries.

“Volunteering checks the box for so many positive outcomes,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “It is a great way to give back to the community. It is a hands-on way to gain personal and career skills that can lead to employment. It is a meaningful way to fulfill volunteer requirements for school. And it is gratifying to know that your efforts can make a significant difference in the lives of others.”
