York County Libraries to Launch New Website

Readers and students will have easier access to books and resources

By York County Libraries September 30, 2024

York County Libraries (YCL) is launching a new website in early October with the goal of providing easier navigation and access to resources for York Countians. The new website has an updated look

including video and pictures of area residents using library services. The last time YCL rolled out a new website was in 2017.

“We are seeing a continued growth in digital checkouts and overall use of our online library services and resources. Our members value the 24/7 convenience of checking out eBooks to read on the spot as well as placing holds on print materials for quick pick up at the library,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “While on our website, they are also discovering resources for school; free language learning tools; and accessing vetted consumer, financial, and health information.”

According to Lambert, YCL saw an increase in website visits from 454,000 in 2022 to 495,000 last year. There was also a growth in the number of digital items used including eBooks, eAudiobooks, and digital resources. Operational statistics indicate that nearly 266,000 digital items were utilized in 2023. Of those items, members borrowed 233,000 ebooks and eAudiobooks last year alone, a significant climb of 36% from the prior year. Overall, YCL provided more than 1.4 million print and digital items to community members in 2023.

“We wanted to develop a website for our members that is responsive, has a clean and engaging layout, and has improved accessibility to better serve all of our community members,” adds Lambert. “The new site meets ADA standards, and easily translates into 11 different languages. It is our hope that all community members will find it easier to find the books and resources they need through the new website.”

Complementing website accessibility, YCL’s reading app, Libby, enables users to change to a dyslexic font and

adjust other accessibility settings. The new site also offers several user-friendly features in addition to enhanced security and behind-the-scenes functionality.

Here are a few highlights:
