Union Lutheran Church invites the community to commemorate Juneteenth, also known as African-American Independence Day, at a free block party on June 15th from 6 to 8pm.
In partnership with the Cultural Alliance of York & many other local organizations, Union Lutheran has organized an evening of fun, fellowship, and education to celebrate freedom and continue the fight for justice. Attendees will enjoy complimentary food, live music, games for all ages, free clothing, and a bounce house. The event offers entertainment for the whole family while raising awareness of Juneteenth, which marks June 19, 1865, when Union General Gordon Granger announced in Galveston, Texas that all slaves were free according to the Emancipation Proclamation.
“Together we commit to continuing the work of freedom through the pillars of prayer, education, service, and mentorship,” said organizers.
The festivities will take place outside Union Lutheran Church on S. Penn St. between W. Market St. and W. Mason Ave. in York. The community is invited to stop by between 6 and 8 p.m. on June 15th. For more details, contact Union Lutheran Church.
