CSY's Drama Program presents The Wizard of Oz May 19-20! This adventurous musical is perfect for the whole family.
The Wizard of Oz tells the tale of Dorothy Gayle [Eden Turnow]. Dorothy lives in Kansas with her Aunt Em [Aubrey Sheppard], her Uncle Henry [Colton Williams], her dog Toto, and three shiftless farmhands: Hunk [Lilliana Flickinger], Hickory [Tirzah Plyum], and Zeke [Madeline Murphy]. After a tornado rips through their farm, the family takes cover before Dorothy and Toto could join them, leaving Dorothy to fend for herself. While trying to take cover, Dorothy loses consciousness. When Dorothy wakes, she discovers she’s in the Land of Oz, immediately finding out that she killed the Witch of the East with her house. Within moments, Glinda, the Good Witch of the North [Hannah Scott], introduces Dorothy to the Munchkins and gives her magic ruby slippers. All Dorothy wants is to go back home, but to do that, she must travel to the Emerald City and ask the great Wizard of Oz [Ava Turnow] for help. So, she and Toto [Megan Cunningham] set off down the yellow brick road, and her long journey begins.
Dorothy does not end up traveling to Oz alone. Along the way, she finds a few travel companions. First, she meets the Scarecrow (Kailee Jenkins), who she saves from what he feels is a humiliating life. He joins Dorothy with the request to ask the Wizard for a brain.
Second, they meet a Tinman [Kailey Odom] who rusted solid after a storm. After reviving him, he asks to join them on the journey to request a heart.
Dorothy and Scarecrow agree, and they are on their way. Suddenly, they approach a forest, which is the home of a Lion, a Cowardly Lion [Arabella Harbaugh]. He gives off the impression that he’s scary, but he really is afraid of everything. That leads him to ask if he can join them on their trip to Oz so that he can ask for some courage.
When the four friends and Toto finally reach the Wizard, he agrees to grant their requests under ONE condition. It involves the Wicked Witch of the West [Eden Taylor] and her broomstick. It sounds impossible, but together they set off to complete the request. Can they achieve the goal of getting their wishes granted? We hope you'll join us to find out!
