It’s All About Chocolate at Three York County Libraries this February

Libraries Have Sweet Plans for Library Lovers Month

By York County Libraries January 22, 2023

Three York County Libraries have sweet plans for Library Lovers Month this February. Dover Area Community Library, Kreutz Creek Library, and Red Land Community Library are hosting a series of free chocolate-themed events. Headlining the series is Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestselling author Jan Moran. She will be talking about her book “The Chocolatier” live via Zoom on Wednesday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m. Community members are invited to watch the livestream at any of the three libraries or to join online.

Moran is an 8-time USA Today and 2-time Wall Street Journal bestselling author of heartfelt women’s fiction series, beach reads, family sagas, and romantic 20th-century historical novels. She is an avid traveler who infuses her stories with authentic locales and the things she loves to research from chocolate, wine, and food to history, fashion, and more.  At present, Moran is working on the next books in her series, adapting “The Winemakers” for a dramatic television series, expanding her catalog of books and screenplays, and forming partnerships for film and television projects. She has been featured in numerous publications and on television and radio, including CNN, Women’s Wear Daily, Allure, InStyle, and O Magazine. The author is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School and the University of Texas at Austin.

In addition to Moran’s virtual visit, “The Chocolatier” will be the focus of three book discussions. The programs are slated for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 7 at Kreutz Creek Library, 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23 at Red Land Community Library, and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 8 at Dover Area Community Library. Individuals interested in participating in the author visit or book discussions should register online using the events calendar at yorklibraries.org.

Food will take center stage at two Red Land Community Library events. The first is the Death by Chocolate Murder Mystery at 7:00 p.m. Friday, February 3 where everyone is a suspect when murder is on the menu. Attendees should bring their own dinners and beverages to enjoy while working together to solve the mystery.  Community members should phone the library at 717-938-5599 to reserve a spot.

Red Land Community Library is also hosting its annual ChocolateFest on Saturday, February 11.  The family-friendly event runs from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and features a large variety of chocolate treats for sampling. Kids can also decorate a cookie, do a Valentine’s Day craft, and read to the dogs.  Registration is not required.

“Our library professionals continually strive to create programs that provide a variety of engaging experiences,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “This series has an interesting blend of intrigue, dialogue, and chocolate that I think our community members will really enjoy.”
