Articles of Confederation Day

Discover how the Thirteen Colonies became the United States of America, and learn about the document that developed the nation’s first form of federal government! Enjoy a variety of family-friendly activities that introduce the beginning years of America as a free and independent nation.

Celebrate the adoption of the Articles of Confederation with us at the Colonial Complex!  Adults and families can participate in hands-on activities and enjoy a live interpretation extravaganza that help us understand the importance of the Articles in American history and learn about York’s Revolutionary past!

Throughout the Day enjoy: 

  • An original copy of Articles of Confederation will be on display until 1:30 PM
  • Learn about the life of a Revolutionary Soldier
  • .918 Club Printing Press demonstrations
  • Engage with Benjamin Franklin
  • Meet Private Edward “Ned” Hector, most noted for his heroism at the Battle of Brandywine, and stands as exemplary amongst Free Black Men who fought for American Independence.
  • Colonial Games
  • Test your knowledge with our Colonial History Timeline
  • Activities that explain Articles 1-3 of the Articles of Confederation
  • And more!

Timed Events include: 

  • Revolutionary Children’s Storytime- 10:30 am & 12:30 pm
  • Revolutionary War walking tour- 11 am
  • George Washington’s Life Prior to the Revolution- 11:00 am
  • Performance by the Central York Middle School Fife and Drum Corps- 12 pm
  • Firing Demonstrations from the Chesapeake Independent Blues – 12:30 pm
  • George Washington speaks on the Articles of Confederation- 1:00 pm
  • Distaff play presented by the York County Bar Association and York County Bar Foundation- 2pm
