HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH CELEBRATION

COMMUNITY-WIDE CELEBRATION OF HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH COMING TO DOWNTOWN YORK ON SEPTEMBER 9!

By Appell Center for the Performing Arts August 31, 2022

All are welcome to come and celebrate the start of Hispanic Heritage Month and Welcoming Week at Second Friday Latino, presented by Latinos Unidos of York, York County Hispanic Coalition and Appell Center for the Performing Arts! All are welcome to join the fun on North George Street between Philadelphia Street and Clarke Ave on Friday, September 9 from 6-9PM.

An exciting variety of FREE activities are planned for the event, including face painting, children’s art activities by Creative York and much more! Plus, local artisan vendors and food trucks, all taking place on the street, closed to local traffic, with plenty of room to safely walk around and participate in the fun.

A highlight of the evening will be live music by local favorites Los Monstros. Known for its perfect blend of traditional Latin/Caribbean rhythms with hot contemporary styles, the band will have everyone up and moving to the music!

“The Board of Latinos Unidos of York is excited to bring the community together for an evening of fun for the entire family,” states Angie Garrison of Latinos Unidos of York. “We are thrilled to collaborate with the Appell Center, The Hispanic Coalition, YMCA of the Roses, Creative York and Restaurant Row to bring you this celebration to the start of Hispanic Heritage Month and Welcoming Week.”

The Appell Center for the Performing Arts will also host family activities in the Strand Theatre lobby, and guided tours of the performance spaces will be offered between 5-8PM.

Creative York will be onsite with a special art activity and will also be conducting Gallery tours and a meet-and-greet with artist Rosa Luz Catterall (whose art is featured on the poster for this event) at its home on Beaver Street. For information or to register for a Gallery tour, please visit creativeyork.org.

Food vouchers, made possible by the generosity of Wellspan Health, are available to participants while tickets last and are redeemable at the food trucks throughout the event while supplies last. Restrooms will be open at the Appell Center to accommodate all needs.

Second Friday Latino September is presented by Latinos Unidos of York, in cooperation with York County Hispanic Coalition and Appell Center for the Performing Arts, with support from YMCA of the Roses, Wellspan Health and CASA.
