York County Libraries are offering a variety of fun and educational activities for
youth and families in August. The events are part of the “Oceans of Possibilities” SummerQuest
program which started June 1 and continues through August 21. Registration is ongoing for the
annual initiative which includes author visits, entertainment, art, music, story times, and other

“There’s still time to squeeze in some extra summer fun before school begins,” says York
County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “Our youth services staff planned over 500
activities this summer and there are several programs and unique opportunities slated for
August.”
Special programs in August include an opportunity for youth, ages 12 – 18, to meet author Kyrie
McCauley. She is the author of the 2021 William C. Morris YA Debut Award winner “If These
Wings Could Fly” and will be speaking at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 2 at Dover Area
Community Library. RSVP is required for the free program at yorklibraries.org/events, and the
first 30 registrants will receive a copy of the book.
According to York County Libraries Youth Services Director Jaclyn Cassidy, participation in
SummerQuest is outstanding this year with over 6,700 youth registered to date. “They are
actively reading and attending events. "Collectively, they have read over 2.96 million minutes
and counting,” says Cassidy. “Many have achieved the 800-minute reading and activity goal and
unlocked some special opportunities and prizes, including a chance to throw out the first pitch at
the August 21 st York Revolution game.”
On Tuesday, August 9, 800-minute achievers are invited to see entertainer Silly Joe perform at
Red Land Community Library in Etters at 2:00 p.m. Silly Joe has appeared at York County
Libraries many times and is known for his funny songs and for getting kids moving with crazy
musical games.
The program’s finale is the SummerQuest Readers Celebration at the York Revolution. All 800-
minute achievers receive a ticket to the 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 21 game and are invited to
march in a pre-game parade at 1:00 p.m. One lucky winner, selected on August 7, will throw out
the first pitch at the game.
Thanks to the generous support of The York Water Company with additional support by
WellSpan Health, and The GIANT Company, the SummerQuest program is provided free of cost
to participants. Additionally, many local businesses donate prizes to encourage kids to keep
reading and to stay active over the summer months.
York County Libraries include 13 libraries that provide the latest in print and electronic
information, best sellers, Wi-Fi, story times, book discussions and more. Their librarians are
passionate advocates for lifelong learning, providing opportunities and resources for all ages.
Through early childhood literacy programs, they ignite a love of reading and learning in young
children and empower parents as their children’s first teachers.
