Martin Library is hosting a free block party as the finale of its Grand Reopening celebration from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17. Family-friendly games, crafts, and activities will be held outside the children’s area on Queen Street, between Market Street and E.Clarke Ave. Tours of the newly renovated library
will be available inside.
According to Martin Library Director Mina Edmondson, the day’s festivities will include performances by York City youth. Entertainment will be presented by the musical group the Three Kingsman, PraizeBreak Liturgical Dance, DJ Negmanwon, Temple Guard, BeatYaFeet Dance, Jump2Fit Double Dutch Crew of York, spoken
word artist Montika Smith, and a vocal performance by Diamond Ford. In addition, there will be face painting by Jennifer Mitton, bubble fun with York’s Bubble Lady Debbie Flaum, plus games, crafts, and activities provided by the First Presbyterian Church, Bro2Go, and the YWCA Early Learning Center. Food trucks will be
available on Market Street for those interested in purchasing food.
“We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the library,” says Edmondson. “We are hosting weeklong activities, but the block party is really special because our York City youth performers are helping us to celebrate the reopening of the library. We are here for everyone, and this event is for the entire community;
you, your friends, and neighbors to all come out and enjoy.”
The Block Party is free thanks to Block Party Supporting Sponsor Maple Press, and water will be provided by The York Water Company. Martin Library is located at 159 E. Market Street in York. There is on-street parking near the library, and metered spots are free on Sundays. Anyone with questions about the block party should

“Martin Library is the second of our three capital campaign libraries to complete construction and renovation,” says York County Libraries President Robert F. Lambert. “I think the community will enjoy the newly renovated space and the services available at Martin Library. The changes are notable.”
Serving the community since 1935, Martin Library is one of York County’s oldest libraries and is a branch of York County Libraries. It is recognized as a PA Forward Gold Star library for its outstanding provision of programs and resources to community members. Martin Library also holds the distinguished honor of being the
first library to receive the Library of the Year Award from the Pennsylvania Library Association.
York County Libraries include 13 libraries that provide the latest in print and digital information, best sellers, Wi-Fi, story times, online book discussions and 80 databases. They have an extensive collection of over 642,000 physical items, and more than one million digital library materials for loan. All are available for free
with a York County Libraries card which can be requested at yorklibraries.org or any library location.
