September First Friday

EVERYONE is invited to attend Downtown York's monthly First Friday in Historically Edgy Downtown York on August 5, 2022, presented by WellSpan Health. First Friday is a celebration of Downtown York, PA shops, restaurants, cultural venues and nightlife hot spots. From 5-9pm, downtown shops and restaurants host special events, offer refreshments and promotions, and sponsor live entertainment. As you are enjoying the First Friday happenings with your family, share your photos on Instagram and Facebook, @downtownyorkpa, #ffyork. 


Entertainment : 

  • African-American First Friday: 5pm-9pm, Historic Penn Park.  Live music & Entertainment, Dance Fitness with Toya, Basketball Open Court, Youth Dance Battle & Activities.
  • Downtown Inc Community Block Party: Everyone is welcome to the First Friday Youth Engagement Event on September 2 from 5pm to 9pm for a carnival-themed family-friendly block party! The event will take place on the first blocks of North and South Beaver Street. There will be vendors, community organizations, free prizes, giveaways, free food, a DJ, and fun! We’d love to see you and your family there! Thanks to the merchants of North and South Beaver Street for helping to make this event happen!
  • The Cantina: Open 12-11pm. Come hang out in the outdoor Tiki Bar! Live music with Scarlet Rose the Singer & Band from 7pm-9pm.
  • Elk’s Lodge: Live music on the patio begins at 6pm. He's back for 1st Friday, September 2, 2022. Come on down and enjoy the smooth sounds of Mellodyz beginning at 6 PM. Sit back, relax, enjoy dinner and some mellow sounds.
  • Explore York: Visit the Explore York booth inside Central Market during First Friday to check out the potential 2023 Travel Guide covers and vote for your favorite! Everyone who stops by to vote 5-8 p.m. will receive a York County sticker and be entered into a drawing for an Explore York swag bag. #ExploreYorkPA #HaveItMadeHere 
  • Gift Horse Brewing Company: Live Music by Steve Courtney Band, 7pm-10:30pm. 
  • Mudhook Brewing Co.: Live music with Kurt starts at 7pm. 
  • Refillism: 5pm-9pm.  Fun Carnival Games.  Street Artists, Makers & Vendors.
  • Royal Square Mural Walk: pick up a Mural map at any of our Merchants and take a self-guided tour. Be sure to tag #RoyalSquareMurals in your pics so we can see them!
  • September First Friday in Royal Square: Join us for September First Friday in Royal Square featuring brand new art exhibits, freshly updated shop displays with new merchandise, great food and drinks our restaurants, live music, and of course the Royal Square Murals! The fun starts at 5:00 (although many shops are open before then, please see individual hours for more info)
  • York County History Center: We will be offering Free 30-45 min walking tours around the area between George, Market and Philadelphia Streets! Tours will be offered at 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, & 7:30. Please meet at our sandwich board on Beaver St. and W. Clarke Ave at the start time of the tour and take a walk with us! September Theme: Revolutionary War.  


Art:

  • The Dark Parlour: 5pm-9pm. Join us for this First Friday with the opening of Baby Bat Haus Youth Art Show. Featuring the works of 19 Spooky Kids ages 3 -17! We will have snacks and a table set up in the gallery with coloring pages and crayons. The show opens at 5pm! Works will be displayed through September 25th. Works are from the following age categories of 19 young artists: The Tots: 3 - 5yo; The Big Kids: 7 - 10yo; The Tweens: 11 - 13yo; The Teens: 14 - 17yo.
  • HIVE artspace: 5pm-9pm. Dots and stripes abound - some subtle, some bold - in the "Dots & Stripes" group exhibit featuring works by 30+ local and regional artists in a wide variety of mediums. Be the first to see the exhibit, visit our artist studios, win original art from Jim Hively’s Magical Art Machine - freshly stocked with original art, and of course Angel the tortoise will be here!
  • Kings Courtyard Artists' Collective: 5pm-9pm. Let your 1st Friday adventure include a journey of the imagination that begins at our mirror mosaic door frame. Enjoy the artistic wonders created by our 22+ artist/members and all new painted glass by Ellen Androshuk. Artist/member Liette Monic will offer Channeled Tarot Readings at special events pricing from 6pm-9pm.
  • OMG Studios: 5pm-9pm. We have September deals for you!!
  • The Parliament Arts Organization: 5pm-9pm. 50 under $50 Sale! Free Craft for all ages!
  • Pennsylvania College of Art & Design York: 5pm-8pm. Meet & Greet with PCA&D York artist in residence Matthew Guiliano from 6-8 PM. Plus you might get a sneak peek at the "10x10" exhibit (opening officially on Sunday)!
  • Re-Source York: Window Painting installation of positive images onto the windows of empty buildings Downtown. We’ve selected locations at E. Market, W. Market, N. George, and S. George. 
  • Venture: 5pm-9pm. New work by Val Garton coming to Venture for September. Her whimsical clay mushrooms can be used in your garden or terrariums. Plus enjoy live music by Beckham Gates Sell and see our "yarn bombed" tree art in front of Venture.


Shopping: 

  • Bare Scentz Soap Company: 3pm-9pm. First Friday Special: 10% off your total purchase.
  • Casta Cigars: Opens at 5pm. Damn fine small batch, hand-crafted cigars. Come enjoy one on our outdoor patio with a view of the murals!
  • My Girlfriend’s Wardrobe: Start your holiday weekend off with us! We are making room for new store decor & displays which means some of our current selection needs to find new homes! We'll have a little bit of everything from artwork to sign holders (some cute picture frames) and more. Items will be set up outside if the weather allows, if not we'll have them set up inside the store. Cash is preferred for decor and display purchases.
  • House of Yoga: Stop by the studio to check out our retail racks and pick your discount! We will have a bowl of discounts you can blindly choose from. In addition to our retail sale, Michele Hamlet will be set up in the House to offer you intuitive card readings. The first ten people to purchase a service at HOY will receive a wooden chip to a free yoga class! 
  • Line & Anchor Barbershop: 9am-7pm. Need a little spruce up for Fall? Walk-ins welcome!
  • Refillism: 5pm-9pm.  30% off select products in store.

  • Aviano's: Open 12pm-9pm. Come try out our brand new menu! Wood fired pizza and scratch pasta right on the corner in Royal Square! Happy hour runs 4-6pm with half off select drinks and apps.

Parking:

Parking is plentiful in Downtown York. There are 1,260 garage parking spaces and 350 on-street parking meters in our downtown area, and parking couldn’t be any easier for First Friday in Downtown York.
