October First Friday

Downtown Inc is once again hosting First Friday activities in person on Continental Square! Join us on the Southwest and Southeast corners of Continental Square for live performances and family-friendly activities. Don’t forget, face masks are required for those that have not received the COVID-19 vaccine, so please enjoy all that Downtown York has to offer responsibly and safely.

Entertainment & Arts: 

  • African-American First Friday, 5-9pm in Penn Park: Live music & entertainment, speakers, basketball contests and games, dance battle, activities, vendors.
  • An Evening with David Sedaris at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts: David Sedaris is one of America’s pre-eminent humor writers. He is a master of satire and one of today’s most observant writers. His new book, “The Best of Me”, is a collection of 42 previously published stories and essays, about which novelist Andrew Sean Greer wrote in the New York Times: “You must read ‘The Best of Me.’ It will be a new experience, knowing that enough time has passed to find humor in the hardest parts of life. More than ever — we’re allowed to laugh.”
  • The Cantina- Casey Walton live 7pm-9pm 
  • Corey Wendt live at the King George Speakeasy, 8pm-10pm
  • First Friday Photo-Op Stops: Join The Loft Studio for First Friday in Downtown York (downtown studio location for Mudpies N Butterflies Photography LLC) for selfie stations throughout Downtown York. Can you find them? Tag your images and use #TheLoftYork and be sure the post is public and location ON. There will be random cash and prize drops on the spot throughout the town!!! Grab your friends, it's sure to be a fun night!!
  • JC Fisher Band Live at Gift Horse Brewing Company: Enjoy excellent craft beers and live music with the JC Fisher Band performing live, 6-9pm in the outdoor beer garden.
  • Pet Costume Parade: Join the Market District for their first ever pet costume contest & parade! All pets must be pre-registered for the event. For more details and to register, visit the Facebook event page for the registration link.
  • The Psychedelic Furs live at the Appell Center for the Performing Arts: Led by vocal and lyrical genius Richard Butler with his brother Tim on bass, The Psychedelic Furs released seven critically acclaimed studio albums - ‘The Psychedelic Furs” (1980), ‘Talk Talk Talk’ (1981), ‘Forever Now’ (1982), ‘Mirror Moves’ (1984), Midnight To Midnight’ (1987), ‘Book Of Days’ (1989) and ‘World Outside’ (1991).
  • York County History Center: Join us around the fire at the Colonial Complex for S’mores! If you dare take a free walking tour of downtown York while we share stories from York’s darker past. Walking tours depart from Beaver Street and Clark Alley (look for the sign) at 5:30, 6:00, 7:00, 7:30 and 8:00.
  • York Revolution vs. Gastonia Honey Hunters: Ladies Night presented by UPMC. Game starts at 6:30pm.
  • Celebrate OMG Studios’ Fifth Birthday with a drop in project during October’s First Friday.  Create your own Hydro dip nightlight for the special birthday price of $20.  All materials included. 
  • First Friday with Brenda: Visit the studio of local artist, Brenda Wintermyer, located on the second floor above The Handsome Cab at 106 N. George.
  • Kayode Malomo Gallery Opening Night at The Parliament Arts Organization: Join Parliament this First Friday! Kayode Malomo's art will fill the walls as the October Featured Artist, in addition to a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month with DJ Gigi Marrero.
  • Kelly Nevin Opening Reception at The Grotto: The opening reception for the show "We Played Outside: It's How We Got By." featuring the works of Kelly Nevin will be October First Friday in Downtown York. The reception will be open from 5:00pm - 7:30pm and private tours will be accepted through the duration of the show until November 26th. Please come enjoy the show and meet-and-greet Kelly.
  • The Spooktober Collective at The Dark Parlour: Join us this October in welcoming multiple artists to the Spooktober Collective showcase! A Dark Gallery exhibition featuring creators, crafters, artists, visionaries and more at The Dark Parlour. This showcase is the first-ever multiple-artist event! Visit the Parlour during normal operation hours Tuesday - SINday to take a peek into the world of Halloween and what the day means to these artists. Check the event frequently for updates on exhibiting artists!
