January First Friday

EVERYONE is invited to attend Downtown York's January First Friday in Historically Edgy Downtown York on November 7, 2021, presented by WellSpan Health.
 
First Friday is a celebration of Downtown York, PA shops, restaurants, cultural venues and nightlife hot spots. From 5-9 p.m., downtown shops and restaurants host special events, offer refreshments and promotions, and sponsor live entertainment.

Per the CDC, in general, you do not need to wear a mask in outdoor settings. In areas with high numbers of COVID-19 cases, consider wearing a mask in crowded outdoor settings and for activities with close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated. If you are not fully vaccinated and aged 2 or older, you should wear a mask in indoor public places.


Entertainment : 

  • Art and Music at Gallery @227 (227 W. Market): Vince Schaffer is refreshing his exhibit Variety in Vivid Color for January’s First Friday. Come enjoy some beautiful paintings and LIVE MUSIC by Dale Kardos. Dale will be playing an all-acoustic solo set from 5:30-6:30pm and 7-8pm to promote his new single “Coffee, Gin, Women and Whiskey” due out Friday, Dec. 31. He’ll also be playing songs from his 2019 LP, Songs for Janey, as well as covering some John Prince, Nick Drake and Alexi Murdoch tunes. We will be serving up coffee, gin and whiskey (and probably beer and wine too) to celebrate Dale’s new release and Vince’s exhibit. Parking is available in our lot after 5pm. 227 W. Market Street.
  • The Cantina (105 S. Duke): Open 4-11pm. Ed Allison plays live 8-10p. Get a head start on the First Friday festivities at Tina's Happy Hour from 4-6 with half off select drinks and apps.
  • Freighthouse Concert Series Presents A.D. Chandler (50 E. North): Join Liquid Hero Brewery for the return of A.D. and friends, delivering original, soulful, country, folk and blues written by a native from Pennsylvania.
  • Jazz in the City (50 N. George): a staple on First Fridays in Downtown York, was put on hiatus during the height of the pandemic, but now it's back! Performances will continue each First Friday throughout the 2021-2022 season. Percussionist Jeff Stabley, adjunct faculty and instructor of Jazz Studies, Percussion, and Improvisation at York College, is at the helm as the Artistic Director of this monthly ensemble of talented local and regional musicians eager to perform live once again.
    • January's roster: Michael Burton, trumpet and saxophone, Steve Rudolph, piano, Hassan Shakur, bass, Jeff Stabley, drums
      Whether you are a jazz aficionado, a casual listener, or have not yet been exposed to the art form, Jazz in the City is for you! Seating will be general admission, and tickets for Jazz in the City are only $10 in advance, $15 day of event, and are free for students, with student I.D. 
  • m.Elene Vintage (22 S. Beaver): “Fresh Start” themed event with local trainers offering mini classes and educational information throughout the store, with healthy recipes to sample as well. 
  • Tutoni’s (108 N. George): Matthew Monticchio plays live piano upstairs in the TT Bar from 7pm to 9pm. Cocktail Hour is from 4pm to 6pm. 
  • The White Me Down Party at PeoplesBank Park: ClintNice All White Affair (Birthday Bash. Music By ClintNice & PrittyDaSelector. Hosted & Performance By Will Traxx (Mr. Shine a light on Em), 9pm-1:30am. Tickets $10. No white $20. $15 at door. 




Art:

  • Artist Gretchen Nevin Opening Reception (2 W. Market, 2nd Fl): Hosted by The Grotto, the opening reception for the show "Living in the Light" featuring the works of Gretchen Nevin will be January First Friday in Downtown York. The reception will be open from 5:00pm - 7:30pm with private tours available until end of January. Please come enjoy the show, meet the artist, and mingle with other local art lovers in the bustle of First Friday!
  • HIVE artspace (126 E. King): Open 5-9pm. Join us for the opening of The York Artbook Collective Exhibit - an exhibit of the inaugural YAC artbooks and coordinating artworks by 16 York-based artists. Plus a special sale on select artworks by various artists in the back room of the gallery.
  • King's Courtyard Artists Collective (124 E. King): Open 5-9pm. We are having a post-Holiday Savings Event! Special savings throughout the gallery. 50% off select items and additional members' items with special savings! See you in 2022...celebrating our 10th Anniversary in July!
  • The Parliament Arts Organization (116 E. King): Open 5-9 pm. Shop Small Pop Up event featuring 4 local small businesses: Pluto Mas, Gifted Pressure, Dripped Gawd, and House of Aries. Stop in to support these local artists and business owners. Shops include clothing, jewelry, accessories, art, and more. Pluto Mas, Gifted Pressure, and House of Aries will be hosting their pop ups all month long. Dripped Gawd is one day only.
  • Venture (128 E. King): Open 5-9pm, with Sweet treats for customers.

  • World Grills (29 E. King): Open 11am-8pm, Asian-fusion, with vegetarian & vegan options.

Parking:

Parking is plentiful in Downtown York. There are 1,260 garage parking spaces and 350 on-street parking meters in our downtown area, and parking couldn’t be any easier for First Friday in Downtown York. On-street parking is free after 5pm and parking in one of the three downtown parking garages is free after 6:30pm. Click the links below for driving directions to the three parking garages:
