Whitney is a published, local author...
Whitney believes in writing from real-life places on real-life happenings and uses wit and humor to relate to her audience. Whitney’s debut publication, Partly Sunny: An Honest and Humorous Look at the First Weeks of Bringing Home a Newborn, was released back in July and has sold just shy of 500 copies. If you are a parent who isn’t afraid to ‘get real’ even when doing so means going to some far-from-picture-perfect places, Whitney may be an author for you. Whitney’s second book is currently underway (hint—TODDLERS), and she hopes for it to hit shelves in the fall. Partly Sunny is available for purchase on Amazon. Grab a copy, and get ready to laugh!
What is your favorite thing about living in York?
YoCo has been my home since birth! My roots here run deep, and I am fortunate to live within a short drive of almost everyone I love. York gives off a small town vibe but is home to lots of amenities and local businesses that I adore. My personal favorites are Perrydell Farm Dairy, Miller Plant Farm, and Blind Spot Nutbutters. If you’ve never given these businesses your credit card number, your life is incomplete. I promise.
Tell us about your family...
I am a full-time wrangler to two beautiful, hilarious, and infuriating children: Clark and Annie. Clark is four years old and is a thinker. He is intelligent far beyond his years and wants to understand how all things work. Annie is two (three as of May) and is a talker. She is nurturing and has a love of all things living. She would befriend a rattlesnake if given the chance.
My husband Jonathan and I have been friends from our pre-teen days and are approaching our 10th anniversary. He is my biggest supporter, encourager, and fan. He loves me even when loving me is hard, and he does it well. He’s an A+++ father and is fully present in raising our children. I couldn’t do life without him.
When it comes to parenting, what is the one thing you know you do “right”?
Nothing! Ha! It’s all trial and error around here, but that’s just a part of this impossible/wonderful job. I struggle with finding the balance of asserting myself as “boss” and giving my children the autonomy they need to learn and grow. My parenting motto is to expect the chaos and savor the beauty.
Tell us about your career...
I began my professional life as a registered nurse working for local hospitals and school districts. For almost two years now, however, I have dedicated myself to the job of “mom”. Writing has only recently become an outlet for me. I use it as a way to journal my children’s growth, express and digest my feelings, and connect to others in similar life stages.
You’re in your car, kid-free, music turned up...what are you listening to?
“Feel So Close” by Calvin Harris is the best-ever song to play at ear-damaging levels. Try it. Your world will be better.
Tell us 2-3 little-known facts about you?
I’m left-handed, I would sell my soul for coffee, and I am far more introverted than I let on .
Why do you love Macaroni Kid?
I L-O-V-E the event calendar and use it just about every week. Getting out and exploring the community with my family is important to me, and Macaroni Kid helps me to do just that.
