My family stayed at Kalahari Resorts for the Grand Opening of their new Pocono Mountains, PA location and we had such an amazing, family bonding adventure!  Kalahari Resorts is an all-under-one-roof family resort that is home of PA’s largest indoor waterpark, soon to be the largest in the country!  I think Kalahari is the perfect family travel destination because of their incredible waterpark, multiple & fun dry activities, and Kalahari’s family focus.

Kalahari is all about families and saving “Endangered Family Time”! Kalahari’s waterpark is the perfect place to have fun and reconnect with your family.  My favorite thing about Kalahari’s waterpark is there is something for everyone, from babies to adults – Kalahari has you covered!  Let’s explore the water park:

  • Tikko’s Watering Hole is the tot-friendly section of the waterpark that has a variety of activities for babies to beginner swimmers.  Tikko’s has a water table with built-in seats for young ones, a few slides that land in less than an inch of water, multiple waterslides for non-swimmers that land in water only 1’8” deep, a tot-friendly lazy river and multiple splash zones & activities.  Tikko’s water line starts at under a 1/4” of water and I loved seeing the babies crawling through it and sitting and splashing.  Not a lot of amusement and waterparks have something for everyone, and I loved how Kalahari made a safe and fun environment for our youngest family members!  (Kalahari also provides life jackets in all sizes for your non-swimming children.) My family spent several hours exploring Tikko’s Watering Hole – I even went down a few of the slides with my daughter!
  • Splashdown Safari is basically a gigantic playground and is perfect for beginner swimmers – adults.  Most of my family’s waterpark adventures were spent running through this incredible play zone.  My favorite part of Splashdown Safari was the splashdown! Every couple minutes a giant avalanche of water would come crashing down on unsuspecting people below – well, unsuspecting may be a stretch, because most people were standing there just waiting for the water to drop! It was so much fun! The Splashdown Safari play structure has a lot of built in water activities and splash zones, including waterfalls, sprinkles, and water blasters.  You could spend hours just exploring everything Splashdown Safari has to offer!  And of course, Splashdown Safari features WATERSLIDES! There are multiple waterslides to choose from – straight ones, windy ones, tunnel slides and more!  They were all suitable for beginner swimmers and they kept my 6 year old beginner swimmer entertained and busy.
  • Kalahari’s Lazy River was another one of my family’s favorites!  We went around that river so many times!  It is the perfect opportunity to relax with your family, on a raft, and maybe get hit by a waterfall or two!

  • Kalahari’s waterpark also has many other attractions including waterslides for swimmers 48” and above (that are very adventurous and fun!), Flow Rider – Kalahari’s surfing experience, hot tubs and whirlpools, Anaconda – a water roller coaster (my personal favorite), an adult’s only indoor/outdoor swim up bar and so much more.  There is an activity for everyone - this place is HUGE, after all it is PA’s largest indoor waterpark!

Kalahari offers many dry activities as well, including a 30,000 square foot Family Entertainment Center!  The Family Entertainment Center was my family’s playground in the evening and is full of state-of-the-art video games and features mini bowling, an XD Dark ride – which is basically a 5D movie theater and, my family’s favorite, black light mini golf! The Family Entertainment Center is a blast!

Kalahari also offers a kid’s activity program called Camp Kalahari.  Camp Kalahari offers various games and activities throughout the day – including dance parties, hula hooping contests, arts and crafts, scavenger hunts, story times with costumed characters before bed and so much more!  On the days we stayed at Kalahari there were 6+ drop-in activities each day. Almost all of the activities were free and they offered one low cost craft a day.  (One was color a Kalahari canvas tote bag and another was paint a ceramic Kalahari bank, offered at around $5 each.) We didn’t make it to many of the Camp Kalahari activities, we were too busy in the waterpark and Family Entertainment Center, but my daughter always made it to cookie decorating!

My family absolutely loved Kalahari Resorts and we are already planning our return trip.  I think Kalahari is the perfect family resort, which is more than just a family-friendly resort – it is a family bonding experience.  Thank you Kalahari for saving my Endangered Family Time!IMG_0512
