Have you ever had a favorite childhood book that made an impression on you that lasted through adulthood? That is how I feel about The BFG. My third grade teacher, Mrs. Lind, read our class The BFG. The book sparked my imagination and instilled a sense of wonder while quickly becoming my favorite book. Even now, 25 years later, if you asked what my favorite book was I would tell you Roald Dahl's The BFG. I was ecstatic when Disney announced they would be making a The BFG movie!

I have been waiting months to share Disney's The BFG with my family so when I received an advance copy of the BluRay I decided to throw a BFG inspired craft party! We had several families join us to view the movie, craft and eat some BFG inspired goodies.

The first craft that we made was giant ears! The BFG is a big friendly giant with humongous ears that allow him to hear to far away lands. To recreate his giant sized ears we used pink paper plates attached to a headband.

One of my favorite parts from The BFG is when The BFG introduces humans to Frobscottle. Frobscottle is The BFG's beverage of choice and it is a green almost soda like drink where the bubbles float down instead of up with some hilarious side effects. To recreate this fun beverage we used birch beer soda with a drop of green  food coloring, poured over vanilla ice cream and topped with pop rocks. The kids loved this beverage and a few parents also enjoyed this popping cup of liquid fun!

A large chunk of The BFG is about dreams. So we also did two dream inspired crafts. The first was a dream jar. This craft was the highlight of the party. To create the dream jars we used canning jars with 1/4 cup of glitter glue, 2 tablespoons of glitter, and then filled the jars with water. Make sure to secure the lid tightly and shake. The sparkles fly around the jar sparking wonder and imagination, just like Disney's The BFG movie.

We also decorated dream journals. We used notebooks and crayons. Here is a picture of this little guys dreams to be a police officer, have a heart filled with love and one nightmare of a broken heart. Isn't he sweet?

In the movie The BFG not all the giants are big and friendly, there are a few that are big and mean! The mean giants brag about eating "human beans" so we had a Human Bean eating contest! We covered a few gummy bears in whipped cream on a plate. The first person to finish all the gummy bears wins but no hands allowed! This was a fun game both to play and watch!
